College students may find stress relief through yoga

The college years are an important time of life when many individuals make career decisions, meet influential people and learn more about themselves. However, it can also be a stressful period, particularly if a student has never lived away from home before or is caving under the pressure of academic competition.

Many of these kids juggle classes with jobs, internships, extracurricular activities and a social life, which can be a recipe for tension and anxiety. However, the Huffington Post reports that yoga can be a great exercise with benefits such as improved well-being and stress relief.

The good news about this ancient regimen is that it can be done almost anywhere, at any time. The practice blends relaxing, meditative postures with deep breathing, which can be incorporated into even the busiest student's lifestyle.

For example, while taking a break from studying at the library, closing one's eyes while focusing on regularly inhaling and exhaling can bring welcome relief for a tired brain. Meanwhile, a simple neck or arm stretch while sitting in class or taking an exam can relieve tension in the muscles.

For those who would like to perform the exercises in a more structured setting with friends and classmates, doing research on local Dahn Yoga classes may be a good idea.
