Meditation improves mindfulness and relieves menopause symptoms

Women in their 40s and 50s may begin experiencing uncomfortable symptoms of menopause such as stress, fatigue and severe hot flashes. According to a new study from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, getting rid of this discomfort may be as simple as engaging in yoga. Meditation and relaxation may provide immediate relief, Fox News reports.

Lead author Ellen Freeman said that there are many proposed treatments available to reduce hot flashes. However, not every woman wishes to take medication to alleviate her symptoms.

"There's a broad range of attitudes about hot flashes and how they should be treated," Freeman explained, quoted by the news source. "There are certainly many, many women who don't want to take hormones and don't want to take other drugs either."

As a result, achieving greater mindfulness and stress relief by practicing yoga "may be something that they find very acceptable," Freeman suggested, according to the media outlet.

For those who practice yoga, meditation has provided countless benefits in terms of enhancing emotional and mental health. The findings of this study may be good news for aging women who are hoping for physical benefits as well. Relief from menopause symptoms are just one more positive effect of the Dahn Yoga meditation program.
