Experts recommend meditation to relieve stress

April has been designated National Stress Awareness Month to promote recognition of the negative impact that anxiety, tension and exhaustion can have on individuals' well-being. Those who experience pressure, whether it is related to work, school, family responsibilities or personal relationships, may find stress relief in the ancient Korean art of Dahn Yoga, which promotes peace and relaxation.

According to the American Psychological Association, the majority of Americans experience levels of stress that range from moderate to high. In order to alleviate this strain, experts such as Martin Boroson – who penned a book on the benefits of meditation – are encouraging more people to adopt this relaxation technique.

"Many people believe that meditation requires a lot of time, or that it has to be done somewhere that is already stress-free, such as a beautiful retreat, high up in the mountains," Boroson said. "This means that we don't meditate when and where we need it most – right in the middle of our stress."

He added that meditation really only takes a moment and can be performed at home, at work, in the car when one is stuck in traffic or even just waiting in line at the store.
