Relaxing under the leaves of a tall palm tree on a stretch of white sand in Kauai may sound like the perfect scene for practicing breathing exercises, but travelers can venture further into the Hawaiian landscape to find Allerton Garden. The vivacious botanical garden is found on the Kauai's southern coast.

The tropical nature facility was once the living space of Queen Emma, who ruled the island between 1856 and 1863. The actual building she called home has been moved to the valley for public visitation and the remaining land was later purchased by Robert Allerton, who designed the current garden's structure.

Allerton Garden is also known as the National Tropical Botanical Garden. Guests can sit among the many native Hawaiian plants that line the garden walls, as well as various types of greenery from Asia and other Pacific islands. There are also beautiful pools, waterfalls and fountains to see and multiple statues that sit among a bevy of colorful flowers.
