Self healing exercises can help facilitate sleep for insomniacs

Since time immemorial, humans have been fascinated by sleep. The self healing process takes place each night as we lay our heads on our pillows, ready to let our subconscious take over and begin dreaming. Each night, resting allows the body to rejuvenate and repair itself, allowing us to wake up refreshed in the morning and ready to tackle whatever comes.

But when sleep simply isn't possible and one is tossing and turning all night, energy stores are not adequately replenished. As a result, one wakes up feeling tired and frustrated, which may affect one's ability to rest on subsequent nights. Such a prolonged battle can lead to poor health and irritability, which negatively affects productivity and quality of life.

However, those who suffer from insomnia may want to consider turning to Dahn Yoga. The holistic mind-body regimen promotes exercises that are meant to strengthen one's physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health simultaneously. By improving all aspects of well-being, the vital life energy known as Ki can flow more easily throughout the channels of the body, leading to optimal relaxation, mindfulness and inner peace.

The Huffington Post recently revealed seven yoga poses that specifically target insomnia. Incorporating the Eastern fitness routine and its deep breathing exercises, stretches and poses may help people get the rest they need.

For example, enthusiasts can perform a forward bend in which they stand up straight and slowly lower their foreheads toward their knees. Another move involves standing with legs spread apart, then bending the torso until the forearms rest on the ground. Additionally, simply sitting with one's legs stretched out and reaching for the toes can relieve anxiety and insomnia, the news source reported.

Such practices can help people fall asleep at night and wake up feeling recharged.
