Enthusiast says 'yoga is for everyone'
There are many common misconceptions about yoga, namely that the ancient Eastern art should only be reserved for those who are slender, limber and flexible. In reality, the holistic mind-body regimen is open to people of all backgrounds, fitness levels and ages, as infants and senior citizens alike have enjoyed its benefits. Yoga can also be a powerful method of pain management for those who suffer from chronic conditions.
One article recently published in the Roxborough Patch declared that yoga is for everyone who wants to give it a try. According to author Carol Haslam, one's concept of yoga depends on one's experience with it.
"Yoga brings to mind different things to different people. To some, it is a blissful mind-body experience. To others, it is an intense workout," she wrote in her article. "To others, it is physical therapy."
She added that practicing yoga has been associated with myriad benefits such as improvements in flexibility, strength and agility, as well as relief from the symptoms of ailments such as arthritis. Engaging in the deep breathing techniques, poses and stretches of the relaxing regimen can also help the mind settle and focus better.
