To ease backaches during your second and third trimesters, consider trying a few minutes of soothing, gentle Dahn Yoga.

Expectant mothers have plenty to worry about during pregnancy. (If you ever doubt it, Google phrases like "Can I eat" and "Is it safe" and look at all the popular worries autocomplete dredges up.) Besides food limitations, travel restrictions and swollen ankles, back pain during pregnancy is a common problem.

Whether it's lower back pain or middle back pain, these aches can be distracting or, even worse, almost incapacitating. Fortunately, Dahn Yoga offers a number of techniques that can give mothers-to-be a little relief.

Where do these backaches come from? According to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, once a woman reaches her second trimester, her center of gravity begins to shift.

In order to stand upright, a pregnant woman must lean back, putting strain on her dorsal muscles. The American Pregnancy Association adds that hormonal fluctuations and stress can make this back pain worse.

The weight of a baby can even aggravate sciatica because it presses on the delicate nerves in your pelvis and legs!

To ease backaches during your second and third trimesters, consider trying a few minutes of soothing, gentle Dahn Yoga.

Experts: Self healing techniques of yoga could support healthy aging

Experts: Self healing techniques of yoga could support healthy aging.

Some women may go to drastic lengths to fight the effects of aging, including crash diets and plastic surgery. However, a panel of experts says that the more conservative self healing techniques of yoga may work wonders, according to an article from Yahoo! Sports.

One of the benefits that can be derived from Hawaii yoga classes is improved circulation, according to Larry Payne, PhD, of Loyola Marymount. Facial exercises, performed for five to 10 minutes a day, can increase blood flow in the face and prevent wrinkles, according to the news source. Certain inversions and upside-down poses could also improve the flow of lymphatic fluid, a mechanism that helps reduce cellulite, as noted in Yahoo! Sports.

Yoga can make the skin look younger as well by relieving stress and improving one's ability to sleep, according to studies cited by the news source.

The American Dietetic Association believes that yoga can make one more mindful of what one eats, which, when combined with the exercises, may help one reach and maintain an optimal weight.

As of 2007, more than 13 million Americans had practiced yoga within the previous year, according to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, a division of the National Institutes of Health.

Arthritic patients find relief by practicing yoga

Arthritis can be a debilitating condition when left untreated, and many patients with the condition report significantly lower quality of life. As a result, researchers and healthcare providers are looking for ways in which to help alleviate the painful, uncomfortable symptoms that many individuals experience.

A study presented at the EULAR 2011 Annual Congress explored the efficacy of yoga as a way in which to relieve the discomfort of arthritis.

Researchers recruited participants through the Emirates Arthritis Foundation database and collected information such as age, symptoms and quality of life. Half of the study subjects were asked to perform gentle exercises such as deep breathing, posing and stretching, while the control group did not engage in physical activity.

At the end of the study period, those who had engaged in yoga showed significant improvements in their disease activity scores, a measure of the effect of the condition on patients' daily lives.

"While our study has been conducted in a small group of patients, the results show clear benefits for patients who regularly practice yoga," the scientists concluded.

Dahn Yoga helps introvert reach out, teach classes and befriend diverse people

Many Dahn Yoga instructors are known as beacons of guidance, strength and enlightenment, helping countless individuals reforge their mind-body connections through deep breathing techniques and gentle poses. Through kind, patient teaching, these leaders have revealed the benefits of yoga to people all over the world, in addition to giving back to their communities.

Recently, Dahn Yoga and Health Centers praised 74-year-old Marion Goddard, a New York resident who has been teaching Dahn Yoga for many years.

Goddard said that she had been an introvert before discovering the holistic mind-body system. Individuals with this type of personality are often shy and find it difficult to connect to others.

After discovering Dahn Yoga, however, Goddard developed the energy and confidence she needed to help others who were struggling with the same challenges. She has taught outreach classes and recorded a hospital-sponsored DVD for the program, in addition to leading meditation walking groups and writing articles for local newsletters.

Teaching "is so meaningful because it helps you grow when you actively reach outside of your own social group and connect with diverse people," Goddard said.

Yoga relieves pain and fatigue of breast cancer for many patients

Yoga relieves pain and fatigue of breast cancer for many patients

Breast cancer affects millions of women in the U.S. and causes a great deal of stress, anxiety and fear. Although chemotherapy is an effective treatment for many of these patients, the pain and side effects that are often associated with it may induce even more tension and frustration.

However, more of these individuals are turning to yoga as a powerful method of pain management, according to The Independent.

Researchers from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center recruited a total of 163 women with an average age of 52, all of whom were undergoing radiation therapy for breast cancer. The participants were randomly divided into groups, one of which engaged in yoga while the other performed simple stretching exercises. A third set of subjects did not exercise.

The one-hour sessions were held three times a week over a course of six weeks. At the end of the study, the women in the yoga and stretching groups reported having more energy, compared to those in the non-exercise group.

"This is particularly important because higher stress hormone levels throughout the day, known as a blunted circadian cortisol rhythm, have been linked to worse outcomes in breast cancer," the researchers concluded, quoted by the news source.

The movie 12 Angry Men is a legal thriller and moral inspiration

12 Angry Men is a courtroom drama.

12 Angry Men is a courtroom drama.

Although multiple versions have been made of the movie "12 Angry Men," the 1957 black and white version starring Henry Fonda and directed by Sidney Lumet remains the most celebrated. This legal thriller is an inspiration to all those hoping for the law to yield the most just verdict and dahn yoga participants will likely enjoy this story of personal growths and inspiration.

Twelve men are sitting in the deliberation room as the jury members of a case involving a poor teenage boy accused of killing his own father. Depending on their vote, the boy would be put to death if found guilty.

Only one juror – played by Henry Fonda – initially dissents and believes that the boy is not necessarily guilty. All 11 of the other jurors vote for a guilty verdict.

Slowly, Fonda's character promotes the discussion and the deliberation of the details surrounding the case. One by one, the other jurors are swayed towards looking at the evidence in a different light. In the process, much is revealed about the personal motivations and prejudices of each individual judge. The story is now a classic inspirational film about the power of critical thinking and the courage to pursue what one believes to be the right cause – in this case, true justice.

People who have back pain symptoms may improve mobility with yoga, scientists say

Attending Hawaii yoga classes may do more than calm your mind if you suffer from chronic back pain. According to a recent article in USA Today, individuals who experience the ailment on a regular basis may benefit from engaging in the holistic mindfulness system. Although the regimen does not eliminate back pain, its breathing exercises and poses may help improve patients' strength, mobility and ability to perform everyday tasks.

Researchers from the University of Washington published the study in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine. Their results seem to correlate with another paper that appears in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine, in which lead author Helen E. Tilbrook and colleagues from the University of York in England elaborated on the soothing effects of yoga.

"Our results showed that yoga can provide both short- and long-term benefits to those suffering from chronic or recurrent back pain, without any serious side effects," Tilbrook explained, quoted by the news source.

Performing Dahn Yoga to ease uncomfortable back pain symptoms may be a good way to manage the condition and improve quality of life.

People who take Dahn Yoga may find benefits in new degree program

Many people use yoga as an alternative therapy

Many people use yoga as an alternative therapy

A number of individuals turn to alternative means of treatment such as meditation in order to help channel the body and the mind. This can help the body and mind work together to treat whatever ailment the individual has. While Dahn Yoga classes can help people learn how to achieve this connection, a school is now offering a program that was created for students who want to get into alternative medicine.

Ashford University recently announced that it will offer a bachelor of arts in complementary and alternative health to meet the demand for professionals in the holistic and homeopathic side of healthcare.

Academic officials suggest that as there is a greater incentive for alternative methods of treatment, more people are turning to this line of work in order to make a difference in the healthcare field.

"There is an added push in the healthcare industry to integrate alternative care methods with traditional Western care," said Alice Vestergaard, executive dean of the College of Health, Human Services and Science. "Because of this, we are seeing an increased demand for individuals who are versed in these nontraditional healthcare practices, products and systems."

Puerto Montt offers a picturesque panorama

Osorna Volcano

Osorna Volcano

Natural landscapes are often the best scenery to be surrounded by when practicing meditative techniques, as there are no extraneous forces attempting to distract one's attention from their personal growth. Those who are considering a vacation in South America in the future should head to Chile, where Puerto Montt's Lake District offers a beautiful panorama of mountainous terrain.

The mountains that dominate the skyline of Puerto Montt stand strong, but are far from imposing. They add an air of majesty to the peaceful atmosphere, especially the snow-capped Osorno Volcano. The 8,700-foot conical land mass is situated at the shore of the Llanquihue Lake and closely resembles Japan's Mount Fuji. A similar view can be found at Lake Esmerelda.

Looking onto ground-level attractions, however, tourists will find sites like Petrohué River, which features catwalks that lead the way to a cascading waterfall. Located in the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park, visitors can stop at any point along the rushing water to see the blue waves crash over the basaltic lava rock formations – a picturesque image worthy of gracing the back of a postcard.
