Hawaii yoga classes offer serenity in a tropical locale

So how can a person blow off steam? With Hawaii yoga classes, of course.

So how can a person blow off steam? With Hawaii yoga classes, of course.

Why take beginners yoga classes in Honolulu? After all, given their soothing surroundings, aren't Aloha State residents already at peace with the world?

Not necessarily. They may live in a serene locale, but residents of Hawaii have their share of troubles too.

For one thing, the state's obesity rate isn't especially encouraging. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 23 percent of Hawaiians are obese, a figure that was under 10 percent, just two decades ago.

Also, Hawaiians have to contend with a high cost of living (COL). According to the New York Times Cost of Living Wizard, the COL in Hawaii is almost 8 percent higher than in Los Angeles, yet the average pay is just 0.6 percent higher.

So how can a brah blow off steam? With Hawaii yoga classes, of course.

Artist and yoga instructor Tom Sewell recently described building his own Hawaii yoga studio from the ground up. Even though it took him two decades to pay for, he did not seem to regret it in the least.

"We create our own culture here," he told the news source, adding that yoga has helped make his years in Hawaii blissful.

Whether you suffer from headaches, arthritis, bursitis, tendinitis or back pain, yoga classes may be able to help you get these aches under control. In Hawaii, yoga-based self healing techniques can be done nearly anywhere, from the rim of a volcano to the cleansing waters of the Pacific.

The Independent Online reports that one form of Hawaii yoga is increasing in popularity, both in the Aloha state and in the contiguous 48. It's called paddleboard yoga or "yogaboarding," and it crosses the relaxation of meditation with the muscular workout of paddleboarding.

That is not to say that this form of the mind-body regimen is exceptionally hard on the body. In fact, many practitioners find that their favorite part involves sitting and stretching while the Pacific swells rise and fall around them.

Hawaii yoga instructor Eric Hiss noted that the routine just takes a little getting used to.

"Even beginners have little problems with the basics [of yogaboarding]," he told FOX News. "Obviously, you have to do this somewhere very calm."

For those who don't feel like hitting the waves and self healing at the same time, there are dozens of other yoga techniques one can do on dry land.

Salvador, Brazil

In order to grow mentally and spiritually, it is important to learn about and immerse one's self in other cultures to gain newfound respect that will aid in one's personal development. There are many places around the world where one can find these life-changing experiences, particularly in Brazil, where the city of Salvador encompasses the diversity of European, African and indigenous people.

Pelourinho, deemed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO is a major historical attraction in Salvador. The museums and 17th-century churches, residences and other buildings give travelers a glimpse into the Portuguese past, offering perspective on the "how" and "why" of modern Brazilian society.

The city is also popular with fans of architecture, as it holds the largest collection of Baroque-era buildings in Latin America. From the beautiful Cathedral of Salvador, which features gilded columns and an enormous sculpture of Jesus Christ, to the Sao Francisco Church and the Church of our Lord of Bonfim, there are plenty of impressively designed structures for visitors to appreciate.

For a look into how African culture has influenced Brazil, tourists should consider a visit to Museu Afro-Brasiliero or the Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Rosario dos Pretos – an African-built church for free and enslaved black people during colonial times.

As the policeman, Hauptmann Gerd Wiesler, keeps track of the lives of Dreyman and Christa-Maria, he learns more and more about their humanity, their personal dilemmas as well as their secrets. Wiesler must ultimately decide whether or not to turn the playwright and actress into the secret police, given the evidence that he has amassed.

Stressed college students may benefit from attending Hawaii yoga classes

If you have ever posed, stretched or breathed deeply during Hawaii yoga classes, you may be familiar with the secrets of self healing. The holistic regimen is designed to improve your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health all at once, enabling you to strengthen your body and enhance your mind simultaneously.

More than ever, people who are busy, stressed and overworked turn to the mindfulness system to help themselves achieve a better balance between their personal and professional duties.

College students, who face deadlines and academic pressure on a regular basis, are increasingly adopting yoga to feel calmer and more centered. Universities across the nation are introducing the program to young adults, hoping that the rejuvenating maneuvers will enable them to strive for their fullest productivity and potential.

"We have students who are so used to being completely stressed out that it has become their comfort zone," said college dean Robin Forman, quoted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "We need to convince them that being stressed out is not good for them and show them the consequences of this down the line."

Meditating, stretching and posing can be a great way for students to relieve their stress, tension and anxiety.

Instructor commends yoga for its ability to nurture the power of thought

Instructor commends yoga for its ability to nurture the power of thought

With all of the stress and responsibility that people deal with on a daily basis, it can be difficult to balance life. However, juggling professional and personal duties can be made easier through the practice of Dahn Yoga, a discipline that encourages enthusiasts to reinforce the mind-body connection in order to achieve optimal health and tranquility.

In an article written for NBC Chicago, instructor Andrea Metcalf describes her experiences with the mindfulness regimen. She said that she took her first class 15 years ago and that she found it extremely challenging initially. However, the breathing techniques, stretches and poses soon won her over with the myriad benefits they imparted to her emotional, mental and physical well-being.

"Less than a year later, I undertook the certification to become a yoga instructor and realized that yoga isn't about following movement, but being present in each pose," she wrote in her article. "I realized that each posture throughout a practice needs to be felt, embodied and saturated to receive its full benefits."

She added that one cannot make changes to oneself without the power of thought, and that yoga harnesses and nurtures this skill. As a result, engaging in this holistic practice can make life seem more manageable and offer busy people an oasis of calm amidst the hustle and bustle of the world.

Women take fertility yoga classes to improve their chances of motherhood

Infertility affects millions of couples in the U.S. Many men and women alike deal with the struggle of wanting a child yet being unable to conceive, and the long path to parenthood can be a frustrating one.

However, more ladies are turning to yoga in hopes of improving their chances of becoming pregnant, CBS News reports. Some scientists believe that stress and anxiety negatively impact a woman's fertility. Because relieving tension is one of the many benefits of yoga, more people are taking up the holistic mind-body system.

Bronxville, New York, resident Holly Dougherty told the news source that she and her husband struggled for eight years to have children. They endured countless fertility treatments without success.

Finally, Dougherty heard about a fertility yoga class in her community. Being a private person, she joined somewhat reluctantly, but found a supportive, nurturing group of women who were going through the exact same thing. She eventually became pregnant and is now the proud mother of two children.

"It was a lot of like-minded people and you eventually end up sharing your stories off the mat," she told the news source. "It became a real support network."

Good news for yoga enthusiasts: Exercise holds secrets of self healing for the brain

Good news for yoga enthusiasts: Exercise holds secrets of self healing for the brain

Good news for yoga enthusiasts: Exercise holds secrets of self healing for the brain

The secrets of self healing may be evident to many of those who practice yoga. The soothing Eastern regimen, which originated many centuries ago, is just as beneficial today for the many people who are living hectic lives. The hustle and bustle of juggling multiple responsibilities can take a serious toll on an individual's health, making it more likely for them to develop ailments such as lower back pain.

This may be one reason why adopting yoga is a good idea, since the mindfulness system is designed to enhance multiple aspects of well-being at once. By meditating, posing, stretching and breathing deeply, enthusiasts may be strengthening their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

According to the New York Times, a recent study suggests that yoga can help improve brain function as well. Researchers from the University of South Carolina found that physical activity encourages the production of fresh brain cells in a group of mice that ran on little treadmills for an hour each day. Compared to rodents that lounged in their cages with no exercise, these animals had stronger muscles and elevated production of mitochondria, the components of the cell that help fuel neurons.

"Mouse brains are not human brains, but since mitochondrial biogenesis has been shown to occur in human muscles, just as it does in animal muscles, it is a reasonable supposition that it occurs in human brains," said researcher J. Mark Davis, quoted by the news source.

Revitalized brain cells can potentially prevent mental fatigue and sharpen cognitive reasoning. By engaging in an activity like yoga, enthusiasts may not only be protecting their bodies, but also enhancing their focus and thought processes.
